Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy Meeting and Advocacy
12/15/2025 - Submitted a draft letter to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy & Advisory Committee for their approval to send to Mayor Karen Bass.
On December 15, 2025, neighbors gathered for a pivotal Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) meeting. The atmosphere was charged with a shared purpose: protecting the Woodland Hills Country Club property from a proposed high-density development at 4868 Canoga Ave. During public comments, resident after resident spoke passionately about the risks this project poses to our community. From the severe fire hazards in our canyon to the potential loss of critical wildlife habitat for mountain lions and bobcats, the message was clear. We urged the SMMC board to approve a letter of opposition to be sent to Mayor Bass, emphasizing that this development is incompatible with our historic neighborhood and environmental safety.
The meeting was a powerful display of community strength. We heard updates from the National Park Service about local wildlife sightings and saw our concerns validated by the board's discussion. By the end of the night, the board moved to support our cause, authorizing the opposition letter. This marks a significant step forward in our fight to preserve the character, safety, and open spaces of Woodland Hills.
