On December 17, 2025, a critical meeting took place between concerned neighbors and Abram Diaz, Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel. They met at a community room at the Woodland Hills Community Church on Dumetz. The room was filled with tension and urgency as residents detailed the existential threats posed by the proposed development at the Woodland Hills Country Club—specifically the extreme fire danger, limited evacuation routes, and potential destruction of wetlands.

Diaz sought to clarify the situation, explaining that the project is currently in a 90-day review period with the City of Los Angeles. He emphasized that for the project to qualify for fast-tracking under AB 2011, it must pass a rigorous checklist of requirements. In a significant moment for the neighbors, Diaz expressed doubt that the project would meet these standards, citing the specific environmental and safety concerns raised. While he stopped short of making guarantees, he pledged to ensure the city has all the relevant information to make a lawful determination. For the community, the meeting was a mix of frustration with the bureaucratic process and cautious optimism that the project’s flaws might be its undoing.
